Employment Information

The Columbus City Attorney’s Office has an annual budget in excess of $10 million, and on a daily average employs approximately 128 fulltime employees (60 of whom are attorneys) and approximately 33 part time employees. The office hires only full-time attorneys who are members of the Ohio Bar in good standing. An attorney’s practice in the office will vary depending on what division of the office the attorney is assigned. The office has four divisions: Civil, Claims, Prosecutor and Real Estate. The Civil Division has three sections: General Counsel, Labor and Employment, and Litigation.

Law Students

The office does hire Law Student Interns and Law Clerks. A Law Student Intern must be enrolled full-time in an accredited law school. Law Clerks must be within one semester of being eligible for a Legal Intern Certificate under the Ohio Supreme Court Rules for Governance of the Bar (Gov. Bar R. II, sec. 2). The office does not have an exclusive summer internship program.

Administrative Staff

The office has several administrative positions. To qualify for employment in the Columbus City Attorney’s office, the prospective employee must pass a drug test, and criminal background check.
